Child Safe Blinds

Child Safety has always been very important to Direct Blinds and Curtains and is something we are passionate about.

New laws have been introduced in regard to blind cord safety and we are proud to say we are 100% compliant.

There are Three Safety Classifications For Blinds:

Safe By Design

This type of Blind is inherently Child Safe as it has no dangerous cords, chains or loops.

Vertical Blinds

We Upgrade all of our Vertical Blinds with Wand Operated Controls and Chainless Bottom Pockets for FREE.

This removes the need for operating chains and makes them completely Child Safe by Design.

Curtains

Curtains are also Safe by Design as long as they are not hung on Corded Tracks or Poles.

Integral Safety Systems

This type of Blind had a child safety device that activates under certain circumstances and so decreases the risk.

Venetian Blinds

All of our Venetian Blinds come with a Break Apart Consolidator to make them safer.

They also come with a Non-Integrated device, such as a cleat, this must be installed correctly and used at all times.

Non-Integrated Safety Systems

This type of Blind comes with a non integrated device such as a Cleat or Chain Tensioning Device.

These must always be installed above 1500mm from the floor.

For us to arrange for your blind to be manufactured correctly, we require the installation height, this ensures the Cord or Chains are the correct length.

Roller Blinds

All of our Roller Blinds come with a Chain Tensioning Device which must be used to keep the chain taught.

Roman Blinds

Our Chain operated Roman Blinds come with a Chain Tensioning Device which must be used to keep the chain taught.

Our Cord operated Roman Blinds come with a Non-Integrated device, such as a cleat, this must be installed correctly and used at all times.

 IMPORTANT

Products with cords or chains require the installation height to be safe to EN13120, ALL of our products are compliant, if you get quotes elsewhere ensure they are asking for installation height.

Child Safety Advice

If you do choose blinds with looped cords or chains, reduce the risk by:

1) Tying up the cords securely out of children’s reach, using the cleat after every operation.

2) Moving your child’s cot, bed, playpen or highchair away from the window blind.

3) Moving other furniture away from the window blind too, as young children love to climb.

All of the fittings required to fit your blinds are also supplied along with instructions and a Child Safety device.
